Phoebe Locke had a fabulous end to, what has been the most difficult, unprecedented Eventing season on record. Phoebe travelled to Srezegom in Poland on October 5th, taking Pica D'or and her young horse, Clotaire de Ferviel to the event. Riding Pic Pic in the elite CCI4*S class, Phoebe rode him to double clear, on a really tough XC course, where only five pairings managed to go clear in the time.Phoebe, at just 20 years of age, was in 7th position after show jumping, but pulled out all the stops in the XC, showing her world class talent, to win the event in style and smash the record for the youngest ever CCI4* event winner. She then put a huge smile on the faces of Clotaire's owners - Eventing First plc by coming 2nd in the CCI2*L class, making an arduous and exhausting journey to Poland, very worthwhile.

In this much shortened season, Phoebe has not been outside the top-ten finishers, in all the events she competed at. In August Phoebe took three horses to the hugely prestigious Le Pin au Haras event in France, with again Clotaire being the star of the show, finishing 3rd out of 80 competitors in the CCI2* class. At the end of August, Phoebe took Bellagio to Wellington, competing in the OIU21 class, again finishing 3rd, with an outstanding double clear. In early September, Phoebe travelled with Pica D'or to Cornbury Park, where she led all the way in the CCIY3* class, with an outstanding 27 in the dressage, but just clipping a pole in the show jumping to finish yet again an amazing 3rd.

After this, again in September, Phoebe took Bellagio to Burnham Market for the prestigious CCI4* 8 & 9 year olds Championships, where probably the best and most well-known G.B. and International riders were competing. Phoebe, again, recording a double clear, established Bellagio as the 7th best horse in Europe, with both horse and rider being critically acclaimed for their performance.

Although everyone has been held back by the Covid 19 pandemic, Phoebe has again, this season, demonstrated that hard work and world class talent, can still make its mark. Well done Phoebe and Team Locke and we at ESM are looking forward to next year and even greater achievements.

September progress

Following Phoebe's return from the European Championships in Maarsbergen, Holland, the Gold medal she won seems very much in the distant past. Her European Horse, Union Fortunus,  which she won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals on at the Junior and Young Rider European championships over the last four years, has now been sold. Therefore, through the later part of July and early part of August, she has been concentrating on her young horse Hipp DHI who she reports to be extremely pleased with his progress.

In August Team Locke took three horses to Harras du Pin, France.  All the horses competed in the four star class, with two of them, Pica D'OR and Bellagio completing their first four star events, with Phoebe. We are delighted to say that all the horses performed extremely well and Phoebe reported she was pleased with all the horses in all of the phases, especially with the XC being a very difficult technical track.

Last weekend Team Locke were at Gatcombe where Phoebe again was the star of the show, Wining the OI class on Pica D'OR on a dressage score of 26.4 and a fantastic double clear with one of the quickest times of the day on the XC course. She then rode a very nice round on her young French horse Bellagio, owned by PJA Capital, who she sets off with on Wednesday, to take to Blenheim International Horse Trials, where she will compete him in the prestigious 8/9 yr old four star class.

Finally to finish off a great weekend Ardeo Fun Size, owned by Eventing First Plc, came a brilliant third in the two star class, with a double clear round, finishing on his dressage score of 25.6, in an International field of over 110 competitors

We wish Phoebe and her Team all the best for Blenhiem and we will all be watching the livestream to cheer her on.

Team Gold for Saracen Horse Feeds Young Rider European Squad

An incredible finish to the European Championships in Maarsbergen for the Saracen Horse Feeds Young Rider Team who take home team gold, along with individual silver and bronze.

First up for the British team was Phoebe Locke and her own and Kate and Alan Powell's Union Fortunus who lead the team by example, producing the first clear round of the day inside the time.

The top three teams were Great Britain, France and the Netherlands. The British team led by 4.1 points to France and over 60 points to the Netherlands - a feat to be very proud of.

Huge congratulations to the Great Britain 'Young Rider Team' and Phoebe Locke. Phoebe, along with being the 2019 British Young Rider Champion has now crowned this amazing feat by being part of the G.B. team of four, who in breath-taking style took all the plaudits and European Gold, in Maarsbergen, Holland, last weekend.

A huge shoutout to the amazing 'Uni' - Mr Reliable. Union Fortunus and Phoebe have been a great team, but sadly Phoebe has agreed to sell him to new owners who see him as the perfect horse for their own daughter, who is also trying to follow in Phoebe's footsteps and become a recognised junior rider. 'Uni' goes with all our love and best wishes.
